Calcium sulphate is an additive used in the food industry which acts as a stabilising effect and helps to firm foods and regulate their acidity levels.

Calcium sulphate is used in a wide range of foods – in particular, processed foods. However, in high amounts, it can be very damaging to the body. However, in the amounts that are used inside foods and supplements, calcium sulphate is usually regarded as safe and unlikely to cause any adverse effects.

Fruit and vegetables

Calcium sulfate adds calcium to supplements and foods, such as tofu, which contains 14 to 25 percent of the daily value for calcium in each 1/2-cup serving when made with this additive. Other soybean products may also contain calcium sulphate.

Sugary sweets, any type of food which contains a mixture of oil and water, margarines, nut butters, sweeteners, seasonings, condiments like ketchup and sauces and soups may contain calcium sulfate. It’s used in many beverages, including energy or sports drinks and alcoholic beverages. Any prepared, ready-to-eat food may also be a source of this additive.
