If you’ve come across the term AHAs on your skin products and are wondering what they are – you might be surprised to find out just how revolutionary they have been in the world of skincare.
According to Paula’s Choice, AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acid—don’t let the word “acid” scare you: AHA ingredients are more gentle on your skin than most scrubs or cleansing brushes could ever be!
Several different AHAs are used to exfoliate skin. The two most effective, common, and well-researched AHAs are glycolic acid and lactic acid. Other AHAs—malic acid, citric acid, and tartaric acid—also have benefit, but the research on these three AHAs is minuscule compared to the research on glycolic acid and lactic acid.
With any AHA exfoliant, the pH of the product matters! Glycolic acid and lactic acid work best at a pH between 3 and 4. Unfortunately, many products that contain AHAs do not adhere to this tight pH range, which means the AHAs in those formulas will be less effective, or possibly completely ineffective.
If you want an incredible skin care product to start off, we wholly recommend using Biodroga Cleansing Fruit Peeling with AHAs. This product gently dissolves hardened, dead skin cells, helps prevent blackheads, impurities and subcutaneous deposits. Makes skin feel revitalized and supple after short use and stimulates skin renewal. Refines the complexion and increases the absorption of active ingredients.
Evenly apply a 1 to 2 mm thick coat to cleansed skin. Allow to take effect for 5 to 10 minutes, then gently exfoliate with moistened fingers. Continue for 2 to 5 minutes as needed. Remove using moist compresses or a cosmetic sponge.
Avoid eye area and contact with the eyes.
