You probably know now that soap and water aren’t the best products for your skin. Cleansing is a complex procedure – because it all depends on your skin type. However, the new(ish) type of cleanser – micellar water – is pretty much ideal for all skin types.
Micellar water is made up of micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules) suspended in soft water. The idea is that micelles are attracted to dirt and oil, so they are able to draw out impurities without drying out the skin. Therefore, micellar water can be used as a facial wash, makeup remover and moisturizer all in one.
So, it looks like water, it has the viscosity of water but when you put it on your finger and feel, it has a different texture than water.
Most major beauty brands are on it – with several lines crowding the shelves of drugstores and department stores. Micellar water is big news – and a relatively cheap cleansing option.
And of course without the need for flannels or water – and much kinder to the skin than facial wipes – they are the perfect travel skincare product or anywhere where there is no access to running water.
The product originates in France where the water is famously harsh on the skin. Used in the 19th century, it fell by the wayside when more developments were made in moisturising soaps and other types of cleanser. However, they’re back with a bang.
